Silang, Cavite

“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls.”

The municipality of Silang is approximately 45 kilometres (28 mi) south of Manila. General Trias, Dasmariñas and General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) bound it on the north and on the west by Amadeo, Tagaytay on the south. Silang is noted for its relatively cool and invigorating climate.

There are lot of establishments in Silang, Cavite such as spa’s, food houses, coffee shops and different restaurants with all kinds of themes. There, you can choose whatever you are craving for. From Pinoy, Mexican, Mediterranean, Italian and American food, name it, they have it available. But above all of them, everything started with Gourmet Farms and The Dining Room.

Gourmet Farms, Inc. started in 1987 as a roaster of high-quality coffee beans and, on a limited scales, a producer of herbal teas and organically grown vegetables and exotic herbs. Presently, they are the major supplier of agricultural products to supermarkets and high end hotels.

All of their products are organic. Meaning they are not using any chemicals in their goods. Their vegetables and herbs are not even genetically modified in order to look bigger, greener and better.

It is known that the owner of the farm comes from a family of philanthropists aiming not only to promote healthy living but most importantly to improve the lives of their employees.

When I first posted a teaser of my next adventure, a got a comment from a person stated that her father works in the farm. No wonder why the company has been existing for decades. It is evident that when you have a good heart, great things happens in return.

As years passed, tourists tend to go directly Tagaytay City to look for a place to relax, have coffee, eat good food and as the route also changed hindering them to pass by the farm.

I have also asked some of my office mates if they know about the place but it seems that they are not familiar. The aim of this feature is to promote wellness, educate readers about farming and appreciation of nature.

When I went to the site, I did not realize that at the back of a restaurant hides hectares of vegetables and herb garden. It is quite surprising because I thought it was a just an extension of a parking lot.

Gourmet Farms produces a variety of herbs and spices such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, basil, parsley, mint and vegetables organically grown.

This is there compost pits where they naturally decompose biodegradable materials to produce organic fertilizer.  They also conduct seminars to their guests in order to have a better understanding of organic farming.

Part of the farm activity is to experience lettuce picking. You just need to coordinate with the Farm Manager for assistance. It is nice to note that you won’t only enjoy the scenery but take part in the activities.

I was really amazed of the farm structures and their products because its different from other farms I have been to. When it comes to processes of organic farming, they far better than any other farms. I had a great appreciation and thorough understanding on how organic farming is healthier and guaranteed safe.

You can also visit a small church constructed inside the St. Joseph sanctuary.

The Dining Room

There is also a restaurant that serves organic food from their farm. They call it “The Dining Room”. It has been operating for many years and had served tourists with a one of kind fine dining  experience but very affordable.

Since its near Tagaytay, there are a lot of restaurants already situated in the area. However, what seems to be a disadvantage is that you can no longer experience the “Tagaytay Feeling” because of overwhelming crowd its takes you up to an hour just to transfer from one store to another.

These are my favorites in the restaurant. White chocolate cheesecake and refreshing Banaba iced tea.

Gourmet’s Cafe and Country Store

Aside from The Dining Room, there is also a store near the national highway where you can buy Gourmet Farm products such as lettuce chips, coffee buns, herbal teas, coffee beans, ready-made dips and sauces, cakes, pastries, juices and wines. Gourmet Farms Country Store Mobile: 09209497728

I highly recommend their coffee buns by 6 pieces for php80. You can also pair with brewed coffee or banaba iced tea.
